Burnout is often looked at as an occupational hazard for people that work in mental health and the health care fields. I do not believe this has to be. I offer confidential psychotherapy to help counselors, therapists, nurses, and doctors mitigate the toll that caring for others can take on our emotions and bodies.
For counselors being involved in your own psychotherapy can be an important therapeutic tool for your own clients. Often when the counselor is stuck in his or her own personal life this can translate to a practice full of clients who are not progressing as they could. Counseling for therapists provides support for the therapist around family of origin issues, career issues, vicarious trauma and burnout. By caring for yourself as a counselor you are also providing a valuable service for your clients by honing your "counseling tools."
For individuals in the health care field the days of the individualized relationship between provider and patient that you imagined in medical or nursing school is long gone. Instead we are faced with the reality of managed care, shortened appointment times and defensive medicine. Working under these conditions can cause compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and feelings of frustrations. Old personal traumas can re-surface and the reality of dealing with life and death situations on a daily basis can cause trauma. Counseling for doctors and nurses can provide an outlet for the healer to re-prioritize your professional and personal life, heal job related trauma and address old wounds that re-surface while caring for others.
For graduate students and pre-licensed counselors remember your therapy hours usually count times three towards your licensure and I offer student and pre-licensed discounts.

I have been in private practice for over a decade. A big part of my work has been serving other therapists both as a personal counselor and business coach. The main challenge so many therapists face is work/life balance. I highly recommend Simple Practice to other clinicians for its ease of use, convenience for therapists and their clients and value. But most importantly it frees therapists up to do therapy and automates so many of our time consuming administrative tasks. Use the link below for a free 30 day trial and $50 off your first month and get back to focusing on therapy.
